RECAP -- OPEN WATER EVENTS MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND ‘17
Club Tribe was out in force last weekend for open water events, with Marina Falcone swimming the St. John (Virgin Islands) Beach-to-Beach ocean race and Shannon Greene, Liz Baugher, Amara Rivera and Justin Chiles competing at the Jim McDonnell Lake Swims in Reston.
Marina finished first among women and beat all but three men in the 3.5-mile event (1:18:15). Marina came back with a glowing report about this event — gorgeous water, casinos, and Cruzan Confusions aplenty! They offer relays, so perhaps we should get a Club Tribe crew down there in ’18 after we raise the roof in Indianapolis.
Back on the mainland, Shannon Greene (22:24), Liz Baugher (22:52) and Amara Rivera (23:40) finished first, third and fifth, respectively, among women in the 1-mile race — each beating all but 4 men. Justin Chiles won the non-wetsuit 2-mile race in 43:03, finishing nearly 4 minutes faster than the next-fastest non-wetsuit swimmer and beating every wetsuit swimmer but one. Great job everybody!
This is by far the strongest open water showing for Club Tribe — let’s keep it going at the SwimRVA Down River Rip on August 19 in Richmond (there are 18 slots left).
