MEET RECAP -- INAUGURAL TIDE LCM MEET (VA BEACH 6.17.17)
We had a great crew in Virginia Beach on Saturday for TIDE’s Inaugural LCM meet. Stormy weather forced a conflict between two of Club Tribe’s key imperatives: compete together and party together. We ended up bailing during the second long thunderstorm delay in service of the latter, but not before winning a bunch of good races and establishing four new Virginia records.
After I got through my first Mile in a while, our Women’s 200 Medley Relay set the tone with a new VA record in the 120-159 Age Group (2:10.80; Gabby Mizerak, Kristen Harris, Marina Falcone, Shannon Greene). Shannon then had only a few moments’ rest before establishing a new VA record in the W 30-34 200 Fly (2:40.42). In the same race, Matt Nilson beat all comers in 2:22.59.
Kristen Harris – who will be representing Club Tribe in August at the FINA World Masters Championships in Budapest – won a very good race in the 100 Breast against one of the best 25-29 swimmers in the area, finishing with a new W 40-44 VA record of 1:21.07.
Marina Falcone has aged up, which is bad news for the W 30-34 record board. Her opening salvo was a smooth 2:08.03 in the 200 Free, a new VA record.
Finally, Sidney Glass took us into the decisive rain delay with a sharp 1:02.85 in the 100 Back, beating all comers. Coach Rich then selflessly called the meet on behalf of Team 1693, notwithstanding the fact that he was the only one yet to get in at least one swim. He and Sommer graciously hosted a cocktail party at their home, showed us a great night out on Shore Drive, and led the team through a Sunday morning dryland workout and ocean swim.
Awesome job everybody, congrats to the new record-holders, and let’s come together again for a great meet in DC on July 9, followed by a team grill-out in Bethesda!
