NATIONAL TOP TEN RANKINGS SCY 2018-19

The USMS National Top Ten Rankings for the 2018-19 SCY season have been published, and Club Tribe had its strongest showing yet, with 25 Club Tribe swimmers amassing 64 rankings in individual events (including 10 National #1s) and 26 Club Tribe relays making the big board (including 12 National #1s).  All nine Club Tribe relay National Records remain standing.

Our teammate Chris Stevenson painstakingly crunches the numbers each year to score out a “Mythical National Championship” for USMS clubs based on the National Top Ten Rankings.  On this metric, Club Tribe finished 10th in the nation – a big move forward from last year‘s 17th and our first top ten finish as a team.  Congratulations everyone!! 

INDIVIDUAL EVENTS – SUMMARY

Five Club Tribe swimmers earned National #1 rankings:  Katie Grier (W 40-44 50 FR, 100 FR, 200 FR, 50 BK and 100 IM); Susan Bricken (W 75-79 50 FR, 100 FR); Doug Slater (M 60-64 100 BK); Andy Greenhalgh (M 18-24 500 FR); and Sophie Rittenhouse (W 18-24 – 200 BK).  Katie also achieved rankings in the 50 Fly (2nd), 100 Fly (3rd) and 100 BK (3rd), Susan was 3rd in the 50 BK, Doug finished 4th in the 50 BK and 200 BK, and 9th in the 100 IM, Andy finished 2nd in the 400 IM and 5th in the 200 Free, and Sophie was 3rd in the 100 BK. 

Seven additional Club Tribe swimmers earned at least one top 3 ranking:   Laura Schwartz (W 18-24) –  200 BR (2nd), 100 IM (2nd), 200 IM (2nd), 400 IM (3rd), 100 BR (4th);  Catherine Mulquin (W 18-24) –  50 BK (2nd), 100 BK (2nd), 50 Fly (2nd), 50 FR (10th);  Anna Wujciak (W 18-24) – 200 FR (3rd), 500 FR (4th), 100 Fly (6th), 200 BK (8th);  Ruth Anne Thomas (W 35-39) – 100 BR (3rd), 50 BR (5th);  Kristen Harris (W 40-44) –  50 BR (3rd), 200 BR (10th); Doug Bergen (M 55-59) –  200 Fly (3rd), 100 Fly (9th); and Alex Montes de Oca (M 18-24) – 100 IM (3rd).

Gabby Mizerak swam to three rankings (W 25-29 50 BK (6th), 100 BK (8th), and 50 Fly (4th)), as did Ellen Minzenmayer (W 30-34 50 BR (7th), 100 BR (5th), and 200 BR (5th)) and Shannon Greene (W 30-34 500 FR (8th),  200 Fly (8th), and  400 IM (9th)).

Emily Ryczek earned two rankings (W 25-29 200 FR (4th) and 100 FR (7th)), as did Chris Stevenson (M 50-54 100 BK (6th) and 200 BK (8th)), Evan Elsaesser (M 30-34 100 Fly (7th) and 50 Fly (8th)), Bob Glover (M 18-24 50 BK (7th) and 100 BK (8th)), and Krista Gass (W 40-44 50 Fly (9th) and 50 FR (10th)).

Finally, five Club Tribe swimmers each made the big board in one event:  Austin Glass (M 18-24 100 BK (5th));  Dave Bell (M 40-44 50 BK);  Cory Camp (M 18-24 200 IM (8th));  Sidney Glass (M 25-29 50 BK (9th)); and Liz Baugher (W 30-34 1,000 FR (10th)).

RELAYS – SUMMARY

The Club Tribe relay armada was in full effect, as we once again posted a huge number of top relay swims.

Five Club Tribe Relays finished #2 in the nation:  W35+ 200 MR (K. Grier, K. Harris, M. Choe, K. Gass);  M25+ 800 Free Relay (J. Rockwell, D. Earle, K. Gass, C. Berger);  MX18+ 200 FR R (B. Glover, C. Mulquin, G. Mizerak, A. Montes de Oca);  MX35+ 200 FR R (R. Williams, K. Grier, K. Gass, K. Gass);  and MX35+ 200 MR (D. Bell, R. Thomas, K. Grier, A. Maholchic).

A pair of MX 35+ Club Tribe relays finished #3:  400 FR R (J. Rockwell, M. Choe, M. Tingstrom, K. Gass); and 400 MR (D. Slater, R. Thomas, J. Rockwell, M. Choe), while a pair of 18+ 200 Medley Relays finished #4:  Men’s (B. Glover, A. Montes de Oca, E. Elsaesser, A. Greenhalgh); and Mixed (B. Glover, L. Schwartz, C. Wang, E. Ryczek).

Two Club Tribe Relays earned #5 rankings:  W18+ 400 FR R (E. Minzenmayer, H. Wittsack, S. Wooley, V. Maqueda); and M18+ 200 FR R (K. Gallagher, S. Glass, E. Elsaesser, A. Montes de Oca).  Club Tribe’s W25+ 200 MR was 7th (S. Kulczycki, R. Thomas, S. Greene, E. Ryczek), while a pair of Club Tribe relays finished #8:  W25+ 200 FR R (K. Gass, M. Choe, S. Greene, K. Grier); and M45+ 400 FR R (D. Earle, T. Gill, J. Kimball, M. Tingstrom).
