MEET RECAP -- 2016 PATRIOT SPRINTS (10.30.16)
The fall season began yesterday with one major revelation. We finally found something that our fearless leader, Kyle Ahlgren, cares about more than this team…The Cubs. Unfortunately for all of us, Kyle was unable to attend the Patriot Masters Sprint Classic, so he could attend the Fall Classic in Chicago to watch the Cubs take on the Indians. This meant we had no banner, no video, no one to keep us organized, and very little direction. We did, however, have fun and some great swimming. We also needed to find someone else to report on the meet to all of you.
Katie Grier swam 2 solid sprint freestyle events. She won her age group in the 50 and 100 free, and failed to beat all comers only because two other swimmers thought this was a championship meet and wore their tech suits.
Kyle Loughran beat all comers in a very impressive 200 freestyle that was described as “like Katie Ledecky” by John Rockwell’s son, as Kyle came off the last turn with a 15 yard lead. Kyle also swam the “Drop dead sprinters 25s” at the end of the meet, finishing with one 2nd and three 3rds in his age group.
John Rockwell was the marathon man of the meet, swimming four events. After a solid 5th place in his age group in the 100 free, John won the 40-44 Men’s 200 IM. He then finished 2nd in his age group in the 100 IM before closing the meet with a 3rd in the 50 back. He managed to accomplish all of this while constantly being trolled by his 13 year old son.
Gabby Mizerak won her age group in the 100 IM with an impressive closing 25 and missed beating all comers by less than half a second. She then continued her winning ways and close finishes, by winning her age group in all four of the sprint 25s, but missing the title of Fastest Woman by a mere 0.25 seconds.
Sidney Glass used the early season meet to take on the 50 breaststroke, in which he beat all comers. He then defended his title of Fastest Man, finishing the 25s with two age group wins, one 2nd, one 3rd, and the overall fastest aggregate time.
Good luck to everyone swimming in VA Beach next weekend. Let’s keep the great swimming going.
